History of Animals Connect Us
I had an enormous love and adoration for animals, as in the case for many elementary school girls. Unfortunately, for many reasons, we weren’t able to have animals during that time in my life. So, I looked around my neighborhood, and found people who had animals. In my search, I found a Shetland Sheepdog, named Tally, outside on a leash connected to a clothesline device to give her the greatest mobility.

I approached the owners, Sue and Bob Nowak, and asked if I could pet this sweet dog. What appeared to be a simple interaction developed into a lifelong friendship between myself and Tally, Sue, Bob and their two college-aged daughters at the time. Many days after school, I would immediately go to Sue’s house, and then take Tally on a walk. Tally was a very sweet, loving, and patient dog, as I taught her basic obedience commands. She lived a very full life, and yet it was a very sad day when I learned that Tally died. She, and her family, had positively impacted my life in so many ways.
It is also with mixed emotions that I write that Sue Nowak died in November 2007, after a lengthy and heroic battle with Multiple Sclerosis. Her presence and spirit truly changed my life. Sue and Tally are the true inspirations behind Animals Connect Us. Tally is the one who connected us, and makes my work possible.
