It is a privilege for me to be able to work with people who are honoring the memory of their pets.

As a lifelong animal lover, I am a frequent presenter at the Association of Pet Loss and Bereavement's conferences, and I developed and facilitated a monthly support group for the staff of a Maryland animal shelter. As a staff member, I travel nationally and co-facilitates workshops on compassion fatigue with Support Services for Animal Care Professionals. (SSACP). My published articles on pet loss have been featured in "Cary Magazine,” "Dog Living" and “Triangle East" magazines.

In 2005, I was featured on "The Signal," a Baltimore NPR program as an expert on pet loss and bereavement:

Most recently, I co-developed and co-facilitated a pet loss support group for the clients of North Carolina State University Veterinary Hospital.  In 2008, my programs on the human-animal bond were presented at the North Carolina Counseling Association conference, and in March 2009 at the American Counseling Association National Conference.

This photo is me with my beloved 18-year-old kitty, Boo Boo Burbles Barton-Barrett, who euthanized and passed away peacefully on February 6, 2009.
